Welcome, from People of the Way,
to the...
UN DECADE FOR A CULTURE OF
PEACE AND NONVIOLENCE FOR
THE CHILDREN OF THE WORLD...
What is a culture of Nonviolence?
The Fellowship of Reconciliation, the oldest
interfaith peace and justice
organisation in the world, suggests that a
culture of nonviolence....
Teaches conflict resolution and
respect for human rights, both in homes and in
schools;
Promotes racial and economic
justice, including the equitable distribution of
global resources;
Works for the abolition of nuclear
weapons and war;
Nurtures the spiritual roots of
nonviolence and compassion in all religions;
Supports diversity and encourages
multiculturalism in all structures of society;
Embraces the sanctity of all
living things and values the earth itself.
Would you like to add anything?
This is a good starting point to explore a deeper
understanding of
what we mean by a culture of peace and
nonviolence within our communities.
Perhaps we can reflect on how and when we
experience this culture in our lives.
People fo the Way will be engaging in this task
over the next twelve months
and hope that you will join us - and let us know
what you discover!
Meantime, in this issue, we ask you to decide if
you wish to continue receiving our newsletter and
in what format, we invite you to make a donation
to help with costs, there is a note about FVTW
book prices and news of our activities around the
country.
Please respond and help us feel that our efforts
to continue our connection with you are
worthwhile.
With peace and blessings for the year and Decade
ahead

Peace Programme in Schools
The Help Increase The Peace Programme (HIPP) is
an offshoot of the Alternatives to Violence
Program (AVP), which is being introduced into
primary schools, after some initial training
through workshops. The first school in WA to
embark on the programme was the Spearwood
Alternative Primary School, and four facilitators
undertook the HIPP and TIPP programme (Transforming
into Peace, aimed at lower primary students)
Both programmes were covered in ten weeks,
meeting for an afternoon a week. Through a
variety of different activities geared to the
stages of child development, topics such as
conflict, violence, peacemaking, forgiveness,
active listening, etc. were covered in groups.
